Micro-spraying technology for forging aluminium and titanium components!

Application of micro-spraying to the forging process following its successful introduction for aluminium and zinc die casting.


The requirement to avoid cooling a forging die when applying the necessary parting and lubrication film
has been achieved by using micro-spraying, a technology that has proved sucessful in die casting.
The quantity of spray medium required is only in the order of 0.5 to 3ml; this is applied by a short spray impulse
either when traversing the impressions, or vertically when the forging die has dedicated spraying heads.

This method of spraying avoids thermal shock at the surface of the forging die, and therefore leads to improved
useful life of the forging die. Continuous heating of the tooling can be reduced, because there is no cooling
of the die surface caused by application of the spray medium. Further advantages are substantial
reductions in the quantities of spray medium and compressed air used, and less soiling around the forging dies.
